Dear friend,

I am pleased to share that my office in partnership with the ConnerStrong Foundation, Celebrate Fairfax and Federal Realty held our inaugural “You are Not Alone” 5K Fun Run last weekend. Thank you to the ConnerStrong Foundation for changing our discussions around mental health and for letting us know that it’s “Okay to not be Okay”. Thank you to the over 165 runners and participants that came out on a very cold, rainy day and for bringing your food donations for The Koinonia Foundation, Inc. and United Community. Happy to report that Chairman Jeff McKay and myself both placed first in our age categories!

If you or someone you know needs help, please call or text: 988 for the Suicide and Crisis Hotline or call the Community Services Board Emergency Services at: 703-573-5679

Thank you, Franconia Police Department, Fairfax County CERT Volunteers, Fair Oaks Volunteer Fire & Rescue Company, Celebrate Fairfax, Federal Realty, Supervisor Walter Alcorn, and Linda Silver for your support.

Remember that my office is still accepting donations for ECHO. You have until April 15th to drop off any of the items mentioned in the flyer.

Lake Accotink Community Survey

Lake Accotink is a beloved resource for many residents of Fairfax County and the region. When it became apparent in 2016 that the lake would need to be dredged in order to maintain an open, boatable resource, there were many unknowns and a different economy. Current Analysis has suggested that Lake Accotink not be dredged due to significant community and environmental impacts and excessive costs. Instead, county staff recommend that Lake Accotink Park master planning process resume in 2023 in order to create and implement an economically and environmentally sustainable vision for this valuable public space. The purpose of this survey is to gain invaluable insight from the community and visitors about their vision for Lake Accotink Park. See the link here for completing the survey and further information on the project: https://publicinput.com/a7178

Generosity Feeds: Meal Packing Event

There will be a meal packing event in the Key Middle cafeteria on Sunday 4/16.

They are doing two shifts of volunteers at 9am and at 12pm. They'll be assembling 20,000 rice and bean meals that are all staying local to school backpack programs, food banks, and homeless care programs.

Attached is their flyer.

Villa Park Community Meeting

There is a proposed land use change off of Villa Park Road, and we encourage anyone who lives nearby to learn more and join the upcoming virtual community meeting. Towns at Villa Park, LLC has proposed to build 42 townhouses on a 5.81-acre site, on the south side of Villa Park Road. The first step in the review is an amendment to the county’s Comprehensive Plan. This Plan Amendment 2021-IV-S2 proposes to increase the amount of development permitted from 4-5 units per acre to 5-8 units per acre.

For an opportunity to learn more about this proposal, ask questions or share thoughts, join county staff on Monday, April 17 at 7pm.
